Meet Mr. Right Reasons: Bachelor 27, Episode 1 Recap
We met the man who loves family, football and frozen pizza and the 30 women vying for his heart (and IG followers).
We are back baby! I’ll admit I was not too jazzed for this season (as you already know if you read my precap), but when I woke up Monday morning, the first coherent thought I had was “Oh, it’s Bachelor Monday!”
Overall this premiere left me a little underwhelmed. The women were acting as if they’d never seen this show before and as always I spent a lot of time asking “which one is that again?” I need the editors to please keep the chyrons up the entire episode as we’re getting to know these women!
We get an intro from Jesse Palmer where he shares irrelevant details about Zach’s adolescence and then a random meet-up with Sean Lowe where he inevitably praises the process. I don’t necessarily agree with Sean’s politics or evangelical beliefs, but my man has aged very well.
Next, more clips of Zach working out in the gym, driving a cool car through the hills of southern California, and admiring the landscape before we get to meet some of the women.
First up is Bailey, a 27-year-old that lives in Venice Beach. She’s giving stereotypical Bachelor contestant. I do not remember her from After The Final Rose at all, and neither did Zach, but she was there. Katherine stuck out as well and she seems very comfortable in front of the camera. You can tell when contestants are taking directions from a cameraman and it feels unnatural, but her intro wasn’t giving that. We’ve got another Black woman with sister locs, Brianna! She got America’s first impression rose and literally said she doesn’t like working for other people on national TV, which I absolutely find relatable.
Something else that stuck out to me in many of these intro packages is how much these women have careers and were intentional in saying that they loved their jobs. I love that for these women, especially if they actually mean it.
Time for Zach to meet the women! As has become tradition, I post my limo entrance notes as is.
Limo Entrances
C’mon bubble gum dress (Jess)!
Ariel is a villain, next
Zach seemed to like tho
Sparkle baby (Charity)!
What are these dresses? Weird ass white frock.
Gabi not the maple girl
It’s unfortunate that the woman with the best dress so far is also a Trumper (Greer)
These women are giving basic so far…
Anastasia is lying
Cat and Zach with a little ~*moment*~
Brooklyn is v cute, also don’t remember her from AFR
WHAT!?!? BAILEY JUST GETTING A KISS OFF RIP????
Katie is horny 🍆
Genevie is giving confident strut hunty
SPF girl Katherine was “stunning” according to Zach
C’mon trumpet!
Holland’s eyelashes are falling off, get baby girl some lash glue
Cara, don’t ever share how many first dates you’ve been on again
Brianna’s dress, hair, makeup, and rose already in hand, NO NOTES.
I was unimpressed by these limo entrances, not too many funny one-liners, no real pizzazz, and the dresses weren’t even really giving what they needed to give. This is The Bachelor, we’re on season 27, we gotta come harder.
Cocktail Party
Zach gives a toast to set off the night and asks the women for honesty above all else. I feel like that will somehow come back to bite him. These women might end up being too honest.
Katherine and Zach get time first, she says she’s outside her comfort zone which is hilarious becuase I felt out of all the pre-recorded intro packages, she seemed the most comfortable. The pair bond over their goofiness and Zach ITMs that there is something already there between them.
A woman whose name I don’t remember goes in for a kiss and it’s giving junior high behind the bleachers. Next Christina takes Zach to the party bus to answer a few questions before going in for a kiss. Zach is very much making the rounds and getting kisses on night one! His moment with Christina is quickly ruined by a group of women looking for him.
Brianna holding on to her rose for dear life the entire night and Genevie giving Zach a parenting homework assignment on a show where he’s the lead were my favorite moments of the night. But just one question: Why was Genevie’s baby white? Are there no Targets in SoCal with Black baby dolls lol?
Next, we get the most awkward breakdown from Madison after a botched kiss and weird TikTok dance break. She goes outside and starts bawling and when the women check up on her she says she just wants to be loved. Babygirl, it is night one. Please, get a grip.
We get a pallet cleanser that is Zach’s conversation with Charity. He asks her about herself and she starts talking about her career and what she loves about it and he seems like he’s actually listening. She has such a calming presence and Zach seems a little nervous around her, which I thought was cute. He leans in and asks to kiss her and they are both so giddy afterward.
I was hoping my girl Charity would walk away with the first impression rose, but instead, it went to Greer, the Trump supporter and (alleged) closeted racist of the season. LMAO. You literally cannot make this shit up. I understand Zach doesn’t have the same info we do while filming, but the fact that there’s some type of issue like this every season is more than enough reason to at least give the leads a chance to do some deep sleuthing during their season as they get to know these contestants.
And to be clear, I’m not saying people with conservative ideologies shouldn’t get to go on this show or other dating shows. I’m saying leads and potentially other contestants should have access to this information before making choices like who they might marry. And it should come a lot sooner than fantasy suites. In the real world, we’d Google someone before a first date, and potentially even discuss politics virtually before a first date, so if this show is really about finding your person, why not give them the chance to suss out everything? Even FBoy Island let the ladies creep on their guy’s Instagram accounts and we know the goal of that show is not to produce happy couples.
Madison finds Zach and pretty much asks him if she’s got a shot and he basically says no, he doesn’t see a future with her. For what it’s worth, at least she got dumped one-on-one and her teeth looked great, so that’s something? 😂
Rose Ceremony
For those of you that think the order of roses means something (I think they do) I managed to capture the order: Christina Mandrell, Charity, Bailey, Jess, Genevie, Davia, Aly, Brooklyn, Kaity, Anastasia, Kylee, Gabby, Katherine, Mercedes, Ariel, Victoria J, Kimberly, and finally Cat.
Going home are Madison, Holland, Sonia, Becca, Lekha, Cara, Vanessa, Olivia M., Olivia L., and Viktoria E.
Top Four Predictions
Based on the first episode, and the trailer we were shown, here’s who I’m thinking makes Zach’s top four. On principle alone, I’m not listing Greer. If I’m wrong, so be it! 🤷🏾♀️
Bailey
She got a limo entrance kiss, she’s cute, and they seem to like the same things. She also just looks like she should win this show. So if she doesn’t win, it’s giving Bachelorette.
Katherine
Of all the women from the first episodes, I feel like they had the best moments together. It felt genuine and normal, even though brief.
Charity
I know I said she was giving red flag vibes, and she might be, but she and Zach had a great moment on the stairs outside the mansion on night one and she got one of his first roses. So maybe that will bode well for her.
Ariel
Another woman on my red flags list. I still think she could be a red flag. Looks like someone leaves Zach towards the end based on the season trailer, could it be Ariel? 👀
What’d you all think of night one? Who stuck out to you? Let me know in the comments below!
